“… for without Me ye can do nothing.”
~ John 15:5 ~
Thank you for continuing to uphold our family and the ministry in Corner Brook in your prayers. These first few months of 2024 have been some of the busiest and most intense that we have had so far, and we have been reminded many times over just how much we need the prayer support of God’s people.
We rejoice to share with you that at the beginning of February, Katie and I were able to meet with the Russian-speaking lady from the Christmas Eve service who expressed interest in salvation. After more than an hour of going through the gospel, and answering her questions, she said that she understood that she needed to be saved and that salvation was only through Jesus Christ. With tears she prayed and, in her own words, “gave her whole heart and being to God.” Although both Katie and I felt horribly inadequate in the language that day, we rest knowing that it is God’s Word that brings faith (Rom 10:17) and not our explanation of it. Please continue to pray for Irena as we seek to disciple her and answer her questions about baptism. She has attended several services since, but we have had limited opportunity to work with her one-on-one with discipleship lessons.
At the beginning of March we hosted our annual joint Winter Bash with New Hope Baptist in Stephenville. Our turnout was lower this year, but it was still a great time of fellowship for both churches.
The middle of March was another first for our small church (there are a lot of ministry firsts when you are a church-planter) as we had a baby shower for one of our members. Katie and Kara did a wonderful job decorating and planning for it, and we are excited to be welcoming a new little one into the church in the near future. Please pray for this young couple as there are some health concerns for the mom and possibly with the delivery.
Another highlight of March was the fact that Katie and I, and Patrick and Emily O’Brien were able to go down to the 35th Anniversary Bible Conference at Ambassador Baptist College. It was such a refreshing time to reconnect with friends and acquaintances who are faithfully serving the Lord. The preaching was incredibly convicting and challenging, and it was a joy to see that the college has not changed its position or philosophy in the 20+ years we have been associated with it. I will be forever indebted to the men and women who invested in my life and Katie’s life during our time there.
We closed out March with our Good Friday and Easter services. Two of our Ukrainian friends visited for the Good Friday services, and the Gospel was clearly preached and presented. We didn’t have any visitors for our Easter Sunday services, but we are thankful for the faithfulness of our regular people who were there.
Family Updates
Elliot has continued to do well in the Cadet program and recently had the opportunity to attend a Flight Orientation Weekend where he was introduced to the 103 Search and Rescue Squadron in Gander, NL. As part of the activities, he was given tours of several helicopters and aircraft and the flight school. He is doing well with his piano lessons and is always a tremendous help in the various ministry labours.
Kara continues to do excel in both piano and violin and has played for some special music in our church services. When we went down to ABC’s Bible Conference, the kids stayed in Maine with Katie’s parents and Kara enjoyed spending time with some of her friends up there.
Both Katie and I have been dealing with extreme fatigue and physical exhaustion that we can’t seem to get over, no matter what we try. We would both greatly appreciate your prayers to know how best to deal with this and get the rest that we need.
