“Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the Word of the Lord may have free course…”
~ 1 Corinthians 16:9 ~
I want to give a quick update on some of the amazing ministry opportunities that the Lord has provided so far this summer. We would be grateful if you would keep us in prayer for strength and wisdom as we minister in these specific areas.
This month (August) we have the opportunity to host a young couple who is seeking the Lord’s will regarding missions service. They will be with us for two weeks and be involved in the ministries of both New Hope Baptist in Stephenville and Grace Baptist here in Corner Brook. Please pray with us for them for traveling mercies and that their time here will be profitable for them and the ministries. We have a number of projects that we would like to accomplish while they are here — including going house to house distributing our outreach packets here in Corner Brook.
The Lord has also provided the opportunity to minister to others this summer through counseling, both in-person and via Zoom. I (Matt) have been working on my Masters degree in Biblical Counseling for the past 2.5 years, and this summer I’ve been able to work with couples and individuals to help them understand and apply Biblical truths to life’s struggles and difficulties. I would greatly appreciate your prayers for me as I complete the capstone project of counseling and exams this summer and fall. The purpose for obtaining this degree has been twofold: First, it will provide (and has already provided) valuable tools to use in the ministry; and, Second, it will also greatly help us with our immigration status and obtaining permanent residency.
Probably the most exciting ministry opportunity has come just in the last couple of weeks. We were made aware of several Ukranian refugee families who have resettled in Corner Brook, and we have been able to work with one family specifically to provide translation services and help them navigate documents and immigration requirements. We have been able to have them in our home for a visit, gone with them to help translate at medical appointments, helped them find and purchase a vehicle, and many other things that have been needed. It is amazing to see how God has prepared us and placed us in Corner Brook to be able to help in this way. Although our Russian is a bit rusty after not using it for almost 4 years, God has given grace and understanding and the words that we’ve needed. After the first day of being with this family, Katie said, “It feels like a part of my heart has come alive again.” Russian speaking people will always hold a special place in our hearts, and it is a true joy to be able to minister again in this way. Please pray that the Lord would use our ministry to them to see this family saved.
At the end of August, we will be taking several people from both churches to Family and Teen Camp on the east side of the island. Please pray for safety in traveling (it’s about an 8 hour drive), and for the Lord to work in hearts through the preaching of His Word.
Family Updates
At the end of July, Katie and I had the opportunity to get away for a few days to celebrate our 15th anniversary. It was a good time of rest and relaxation, and we are looking forward to many more years of life and ministry together as the Lord allows.
Kara has been involved in soccer this summer and has been taking part in special goalie sessions. She loves playing and she has had some wonderful coaches this year. She also loves to make cookies and jam, and anything else! She is definitely becoming the cookie queen in our family!
Elliot had the opportunity to take part in a youth hunting and fishing workshop jointly hosted by a local rod & gun club and the province. He enjoyed the day practicing and learning some new skills with firearms and wilderness survival.
Thank you for your faithful prayers and support. We are truly blessed to be His servants and your representatives to the people of Newfoundland.
