“ Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course:”

~ 2 Thessalonians 3:1 ~

I apologize for the long time in between prayer letters.  The end of 2025 and beginning of this year brought some very unexpected events and challenges that have delayed my getting an update out sooner.

Just before Christmas we made an emergency trip to Maine because Katie’s dad suffered a severe fall on the ice, resulting in a severe concussion.  Katie’s mom had just had knee replacement surgery a week prior, and was unable to tend him, so we were able to be there for a short time to help care  for them and their medical needs. God’s protection was very evident in the entire situation, putting the right people in the right place at the right time to see him fall and get the immediate medical help he needed.  Please keep him in your prayers for a full recovery as he has had lingering effects from the concussion that have only recently begun to improve.

In February, I (Matt) wound up in the emergency room with a weird heart episode.  Thankfully all the tests that were run came back clear and there was no sign of a cardiac event or lingering issues.  It didn’t provide any answers, but it did rule out some things.  We are continuing to try to find out what is going on with my health, but the medical system is very slow, and to date, no doctors have had any insight or answers.

Besides all this, we have been continuing with the work of the ministry.  The Lord gave us two new outreach events during the Christmas season that have led to further ministry opportunities. The city of Corner Brook asked our church to host a hot cocoa stand for the Christmas parade, which was fantastically received by the community and our city officials.  We also went carolling at a retirement home and have been asked to come back and hold services there as we are able.  At the end of February we hosted a Winter Cabin Bash with New Hope Baptist Church. The Lord blessed with a beautiful, cold, clear day, and the kids (and adults alike) enjoyed some outdoor winter activities and fun.

Family Updates

Elliot celebrated his 17th birthday in December.  He has become Katie’s full-time helper with Sunday school and Wednesday night kids meetings and also plays the piano for church on a regular basis.

Karalyn celebrated her 14th birthday in January.  She has become the full-time church pianist and also helps out with the nursery.

Both Elliot and Karalyn are active in cadets again this year.  They are training for a biathlon competition in April and are excited to compete again.  They both are faithful to invite their friends from cadets to youth nights, and although we have seen our numbers decrease a bit over the winter, we are thankful for the ministry opportunities that cadets has opened up for us as a family.

Upcoming Ministries & Outreach

As we look forward over the next couple of months, there are a few things that we’d ask you to keep in prayer for the ministry here in Corner Brook.  April 3 will be our Good Friday Service, and on Resurrection Sunday, we will have a brunch and special service.  On June 28, Grace Baptist Church will celebrate its Fifth Anniversary.  Our sending pastor, and his wife, will be with us to celebrate this milestone, and we are looking forward to the fellowship and time together.

We are also trying to expand our church facilities in order to have Sunday school and nursery space.  Over the last year we have had both kids and infants coming regularly, so space is definitely needed.  There is an empty garage bay behind our church unit, and we have been in talks with our landlords to see if we could add that space to our lease and renovate it to make it usable for our needs.  Please pray with us 1) that we would be able to rent the space and renovate it the way we need to, and 2) that the Lord would provide the finances needed for the renovation costs.
