The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.

~ Psalm 126:3 ~

Since the first of the year, the ministries in Stephenville and Corner Brook have had their ups and downs; yet one thing has stayed consistent — and that is that God is still on the throne and He is still building His church.

After more than 6 months of relatively few restrictions due to COVID, the entire province went on lockdown again in the middle of February and through the month of March due to an unexplained outbreak and community spread on the eastern side of the island.  This forced us back into an online only ministry, but this time, we were able to quickly adapt and even expand our online ministries.

While we continued with our regular services online, the ladies did a wonderful job organizing a Zoom Sunday School for the kids from both churches.  It was exciting to see all the kids from both ministries interact with each other and meet each other, and everyone had a great time doing it.

Thankfully, towards the end of March the restrictions lifted enough to be able to meet again in person in both locations.  We praise the Lord that we are back to an almost “normal” ministry schedule with fewer restrictions in place.

The highlight of the last few months’ ministry was that Grace Baptist Church held its first baptismal service since we’ve been here, and four people followed the Lord in believer’s baptism!  Both Elliot and Karalyn were baptized as well as two others from the church!  Karalyn chose to have me baptize her, and Elliot wanted his Uncle Patrick to baptize him.  It was truly a special day, not just because we saw our children be obedient to the Lord’s command, but also because we saw the entire church family get excited about this step of obedience in the lives of these believers.

The other exciting news is that we are moving quickly towards chartering Grace Baptist Church.  We have set a charter date of June 6, and Bro. O’Brien and I have been busy preparing the church constitution and getting everything in order for that special day.  The church family is excitedly anticipating this next step and we are so thrilled to be a part of God’s work here in western Newfoundland.

Miscellaneous Updates

New Hope Baptist Church in Stephenville is still in search of a permanent meeting place.  We made an offer to lease a building on the corner of Main Street, but it was turned down by the owner because another party was already in negotiations about the space.  Thankfully, the curling club where we are meeting has been more than gracious in allowing us to rent their facility, but the need for a permanent presence in the community still remains.  We are currently working with a real estate agent to try to find a space and would ask you to pray with us that God would provide a permanent facility for the church.

Family Updates

The kids are getting close to finishing the school year and we have been taking advantage of some of the nicer spring weather by trying some new activities.  Both Elliot and Karalyn have enjoyed learning how to play frisbee golf at a new course in the town park, and we have explored some of the old bunkers from the former US Air Force base that was here in Stephenville.

Thank you for your faithful prayers and support. We are truly blessed to be His servants and your representatives to the people of Newfoundland.
