I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, …

for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;

Philippians 1:3-5 ~

As we have begun traveling more these past few months, we have found ourselves blessed and encouraged beyond measure.  To date, our furlough has taken us through Ohio, Virginia and North Carolina and at each church in which we have reported, we have been strengthened and uplifted by the fellowship of the Gospel that we share with believers in Christ.  It has been a true joy to renew acquaintance with our supporting churches, make new friends along the way, and fellowship with co-labourers who are serving in many different ministries around the country.

One of the highlights during the month of August was the privilege that we had to attend the Advanced Missionary & Chaplain Training classes of our mission board, All Points Baptist Mission.  Missionaries and military chaplains from all corners of the globe were present, and it was a truly  exciting and unique time together.  This week of classes, fellowship and preaching was a tremendous shot in the arm for us and we came away with a renewed passion for the work to which God has called us, and rekindled love for our fellow-labourers around the world.  We would like to publicly thank Pastor Don Snow and the people of Calvary Baptist Church of New Philadelphia, OH for their tremendous hospitality and generosity in hosting the events of the week.

At the end of August our home church sent me and Katie to a missionary couples’ retreat at Elijah’s Harbour in Greenville, TN where, once again, we were challenged and encouraged by the fellowship with other missionaries.  Serving in Kirabati, Cape Verde, the Gaucho region of Brazil, Newfoundland, Zambia and Tanzania, each couple brought unique ministry experiences that were a benefit to all.  The week was refreshing physically as well as spiritually, and we thank the Lord for our home church and the love and care that they continue to show to us.

We finished out September with a missions conference in our home church, and it was such a delight to be challenged with them about faith promise giving to missions.  In each place we have been, God has given us just what we have needed at just the right times.  We praise Him for the fellowship in the Gospel that we have with His servants and fellow believers around the world!

Newfoundland News

Much has been happening in Newfoundland over the summer.  The O’Briens have been kept busy with family camp and other ministries.  Fall means moose hunting season and Patrick has already been out with some pastors from the other side of the island.  Hunting provides a great opportunity to build relationships with the men in the communities as well, and Patrick has had the opportunity many times to share the Gospel while on a hunting trip.  Please pray that the Lord will use this season to open up more opportunities to share the Gospel.

Family Update

All of us so far have enjoyed the travels on furlough.  For us, it has been the fellowship that has been the most enjoyable; for the kids, it is staying in hotels and being able to see and do many new things along the way.  We have also enjoyed some extended time with family and our home church, and Elliot and Kara have greatly enjoyed being able to participate in Master’s Club and Sunday school.

In our last letter we mentioned how the Lord had provided funds for a vehicle, and we are excited to share with you that He has provided and amazing vehicle for our furlough travels — a dark blue 2013 Toyota Highlander.  Not only is it a comfortable ride, but with plenty of space for our family and gear, plus having low mileage, it should last us for many miles and many years.  We look forward to using it for His glory both here in the States on furlough and on the field in Newfoundland.

We also wanted to let you know that our new family photo is available for download on our website.  You may view it and download it from the link below:
